Day 67/68 – 37.7 km (total – 1370.8 km)

The afternoon turned a bit nasty!

The afternoon turned a bit nasty!

This morning I ran out of Nova Scotia and into New Brunswick.  Maybe it’s because we spent a week in Halifax, but our time in Nova Scotia seemed brief.  Or maybe it’s just that getting through Newfoundland in the heart of winter seemed long!  Either way, Take Me Outside hit our 3rd province today, which felt good.

We spent our day off in Amherst yesterday, home of our good buddy Matty.  Granted he now lives in the Yukon, but the friendliness of the city was a pleasant reminder of why Sarah and I both love the friendly giant (he’s 6’7”)!  And we needed that friendliness as the day started with winter showing its face again and a power outage throughout town.  Although we had our trusty generator, we didn’t have a place to go to the bathroom for a little while!

Normal?

Normal?

Today’s run seemed eventful – a guy stopped at the side of the highway this morning to interview me for a radio station in Amherst.  There was some good snow in the morning run so by the time I stopped for lunch I was soaked.  It cleared up for part of the afternoon and the warmth of the sun felt amazing.  But just as quickly as it came, it disappeared.  Dark clouds rolled in and a nasty little snowstorm moved through.  I called it quits around 37 km as the visibility wasn’t great out on the TCH.

Snow pelted my face from a wicked crosswind!

We have a donate section on our website where one of the things you can purchase is a marathon in your name.  So tomorrow’s marathon goes out to Emily Root!  I met Emily when I worked at Outward Bound and a good friendship has grown over the years.  She currently lives in BC with her partner Pat and their new son Fraser, who got introduced to his first dog sled race this winter!  Thanks Em!

(And just a small update that I ran today again without pain… woohoo!)
