Seeking Take Me Outside Coordinator
Organization: Take Me Outside
Location: from home, anywhere in Canada
About Take Me Outside
Take Me Outside is a non-profit organization committed to raising awareness and facilitating action on nature connection and outdoor learning in schools across Canada. We believe in a future where spending time outside playing, exploring and learning is a regular and significant part of every student’s day. We work collaboratively with other organizations, school boards and individuals to encourage children and youth to spend more time outside through various projects and initiatives. TMO’s target population is students and educators across Canada who we reach mainly through the education system. Our goal is to encourage schools to extend the learning environment beyond the desk and four walls and to use the great outdoors as part of the regular teaching practice. The ultimate goal is to encourage more time spent outside during the school day to counter balance excessive screen time and sedentary tendencies. Our programs are simple, fun and accessible to all.
Take Me Outside is seeking a dynamic, focused, and self-motivated individual who is passionate about getting students outside. This part-time position, based anywhere in Canada, will be integral in the day to day operations of Take Me Outside (TMO) and will work with the Executive Director to implement programs, connect with partners, support fundraising to expand our reach and impact.
We are looking for someone with a sound knowledge of outdoor and environmental education who is well-versed in the issues within this field. The ideal candidate is someone who has an understanding of and some experience in program development and delivery as well as organizational administration and development. You will use your skills to ensure our programs are delivered to the highest, support TMO administratively, while giving input and support on the bigger vision for TMO. You will ultimately help to drive that vision through your frontline day to day work.
Your primary role will be the coordination, implementation and expansion of existing TMO projects and initiatives, like the Take Me Outside for Learning Challenge, Winter Challenge and Take Me Outside Day. You will also be responsible for the monthly Take Me Outside newsletter and many front-line communications – answering emails, assisting with board meetings, hosting booths at conferences and developing professional relationships as TMO attempts to grow and expand its reach across Canada.
Because we are a small grassroots organization and we all wear many hats, we are looking for a strong team player who is resourceful, flexible, and keen to roll their sleeves up and do whatever it takes to get the job done. Certain times of the year are busier than others so flexibility is required with the number of hours put in on a weekly basis.
Experience and Qualifications
We are looking for someone with as many of the following skills, experience or qualifications as possible:
- A deep passion for getting kids outside, off their screens and connected to the land.
- Proven experience in communications, preferably for a non-profit organization, including using social media platforms
- Proven experience with administrative duties
- Strong writing skills
- Experience working in a self-motivated environment; good organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities
- Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with board members, staff, stakeholders, and volunteers
Other assets or qualifications that would be helpful include:
- Experience working within non-profit sector
- A degree or certificate in environmental education, outdoor education or related field, or equivalent professional experience
- Experience writing funding applications and reports
- Experience in event/program coordination
- Working knowledge of French (or bilingual) a strong asset
