Day 55/56 – 19.3 km (total – 1234.6 km)

It’s been an eventful last couple of days!  After Friday’s run which put us about 20 km from Truro, some friends came to visit Friday night.  John and Carolyn have known Sarah for awhile and on a whim, decided to drive up to hang out with us.  They took us out for dinner and gave us a warm hotel room for the night… so generous!
It’s always interesting to be reminded of how the mental aspect of running can affect the physical body and how it works.  It was 19 km on Saturday to the cutoff for Halifax and mentally, I had checked out.  As a result, it was one of the tougher 19 km I’ve run.  The fact that rain was coming at me sideways didn’t really help!  When Sarah picked me up, we stopped so I could change out of my wet running clothes.  Long story short – we got out our 4th flat tire. It was 5 o’clock on a Saturday afternoon and so everything was closed.  We managed to get down to Halifax after pumping it a few times along the way and trying to super glue the leak in the valve.

So it’s a mixed bag of emotions being in Halifax.  We are frustrated with the RV and all the challenges it has given us.  We are putting feelers out to anyone who might know someone in the RV world.  Sarah and I tried for 4 months to find a dealership that would donate one for 8 months and came up empty-handed.  So if you happen to be reading this and know someone who has their foot in the door of the RV world, we’d love to hear from you!

On the flip side of things, there are lots of things to smile about!  Today felt like spring and both Sarah and I were out in our sandals.  Sarah has reunited with her mother and will enjoy a week of seeing friends in the area.  We are excited to visit schools throughout the week.  We are at Sarah’s school Tuesday and her students will be ecstatic to see her!  So it is a week we look forward to.  After almost 2 months on the road, we’re more than ready for a breather!  And my legs are thankful for a week of rest.
