Dr. Janet Dyment is currently a Professor in the Department of Community Development at Acadia University in Nova Scotia, Canada.  She has dedicated her career to working in outdoor and environmental education, having worked for many organizations, including the Canadian Outward Bound Wilderness School, the National Outdoor Leadership School and Project Dare.  Her academic work bridges research, policy, and practice to strengthen how educators, communities, and organizations engage with nature as a powerful site for learning, wellbeing, and social connection. With over two decades of academic experience in Canada and Australia, Janet has published more than 70 peer-reviewed journal articles and co-edited Outdoor Environmental Education in Higher Education: International Perspectives (Springer, 2021). Her scholarship explores outdoor learning across educational systems, green school design, reflective practice, and inclusive approaches to outdoor education.

A former Director of Acadia’s School of Education and recipient of a national teaching award in Australia, Janet brings deep experience in curriculum innovation, partnership development, and research leadership. She is passionate about supporting educators to make outdoor learning accessible, equitable, and transformative.
